The one in which I'm vain because I'm getting older...

Soooooo....
I've never really been a girly girl.
I think if you know me in real life or have followed me for a bit, this you are aware of.
That being said.
And I know I've said it before...
but I wish I were.
More.
Girly. Feminine. Lace and Ruffles and stuff.

Honestly most days my hair is up and messy and has at least 10 bobby pins holding it together.
Most days I stay in my loungewear because it's actually what I sleep in.

Then there are the rare occasions, like having enough time to get ready before church or dinner out that I'd actually like to look nice for.

Make up for me is usually a swipe of blush, some lip gloss that's a color deeper than my actual lips, maybe eyebrow filler, and mascara. Oh and my eyelash curler. Looooooove my eyelash curler.

I rarely use foundation. I don't know exactly what primer is, I've never really mastered concealer, or eyeshadow for that matter. I just....I don't know, don't have the time, am too impatient....

Anyway, I was actually wondering if you guys have any good tips and tricks to pass along to me. Obviously I know a lot of momma's read this so if you have short cuts or just quickies that would be much appreciated.

And if you swear by a product let me know that as well. I've heard good things about primers so if you actually know what it does and can tell me your experience I'd love to hear it.

Also, random and on the side, does anyone do oil cleansing? My skin is actually pretty clear most days but I'd really like to get away from all the chemically facial cleansers.

Oh, and any other hair or beauty tips? I'll take those too.

So start commenting...you know you waaaaaannnnntttt to.

  1. I'm a lot like you. I do not fuss much over my appearance. I never wear foundation, ever. It feels too heavy on my skin. My make-up consists of eye liner, shadow, mascara & lip balm. I'm usually in jeans & a t shirt (IF I change out of my PJ's, that is), and my hair is down one day, up three :) The only real advice I can offer (since I'm clearly no fashionista) is, invest in good pieces that you really love & will get a lot of wear out of, even if they cost a bit more. Branch out a little, but not so much out of your comfort zone that you won't feel comfortable & confident when you wear it. I have a few key pieces that I love to wear, and they make me feel good about my body, and a little more "dressed up".

    1. Good point Alison, I usually buy the cheaper stuff for me. I need to figure out what (fancy) stuff I feel comfortable in. My outfit daily is usually tank top, cardigan, jeans and ballet flats.

  2. I, too, am a no fuss kinda gal. I only wear powder, mascara, lip balm and little bit of blush. Over a year ago I started washing my face with honey because all commercial cleansers were starting to be really harsh on my skin (even those I had been using a long time). Sometimes I add a bit of baking soda if I need a "scrub." I completely agree with Alison on clothing. I am mostly jeans and tshirts but I have a few "nicer" pieces (that still aren't super fancy, because I am a firm believer in comfort.) Most importantly I want to be myself. I often see people and think about how nice they look but I quickly realize that if I were wearing the same thing it wouldn't feel like "me."

  3. Oh, also, I have recently tried to get better about wearing a necklace or earrings. A cute necklace can quickly spruce up my regular jeans+tshirt ensemble.

    1. Amy, great point! I never wear jewelry except sometimes earrings. I need to add some jewelry to me. And I agree, when I see outfits on others I think ooooooo so cute, but I'd feel so weird. Like in a skirt!!
Just regular store bought honey? I'll look into it more. Thanks

  4. okay....first, primer acts as a magnet to help your foundation stay on during the day. it also helps make the surface of your skin appear smoother. mk's primer is great and i like it even on days when i don't wear foundation for the smooth appearance. it also helps pores appear smaller! since you like things that seem to be pretty fast and easy you might also like our cream eye shadows. i love mine in beach blonde. goes on quick (i use my fingers, but we have a brush also) and can be put on the whole eyelid for quick color. bronzer is another must have for me. and you know of course, i can always hook you up with samples. can't help you on the hair front...i think mine might be a little curlier than yours. if yours is pretty curly, my tip is to not wash your hair for several days. us curly headed gals have drier hair which means less washing is actually better!

  5. It takes me 8 minutes to do my makeup. That's it...8 minutes. I'm a minimalist 100% but I'm always "put together" (for me) and like it. I do the eyebrow filler, curled + 2 coats of mascara for lashes, blush, under eyes and spot treatment for red spots. Bada bing 8 minutes later, I'm all purtified!

If I'm going out to dinner, I'll spend 5 more minutes on eyeshadow and eye liner and a wee bit more blush but no more. Oh duh, I do a light lip liner too.

Any way, I think 8 minutes is real easy to do every day. It always makes me feel put together when I have everything on. I have the primer, mineral veil, and plenty of other things that I just don't need nor use.

Oh, and my friend does oil on her face at night and she likes it.

  7. Well, you dont have to be girly to be pretty :) and you are very pretty! One really easy beauty tip I love is to make a face scrub using about a tablespoon of honey, some cinnamon and some nutmeg. Mix it all together and rub it on your face and leave it for 15 to 30 minutes. And if it drips, you can just lick it, it's delicious ;) it sounds really simple, but after you gently rub it off you'll be amazed-- the honey moisturized, and the spices gently exfoliate. They also take out redness and can help with any breakouts. Try it and tell me what you think!
